Allergies and people who suffer from allergies are increasing year over year. Behind this there are genetic factors, nutrition factors and for sure pollution.
Allergens are the triggers of allergies. Avoiding allergens, at least the ones that are classified as such being recognized as the major responsible for allergic reactions, is what we can do to protect our body and, coming to skincare, our skin.
Difference and similarities between Allergens and Allergies
The key difference between allergens and allergies is that allergens are substances that trigger the formation of immunoglobulin E, while allergies are immune responses developed due to the formation of immunoglobulin E. The immune system helps to protect the body from different invading pathogens and foreign particles. Allergens are such foreign particles that cause a sensitive reaction from the immune system known as allergies. The immune system identifies different sensitive allergens and naturally triggers an immune reaction generating different symptoms. Both allergens and allergies are interconnected since allergies occur only in the presence of allergens. So, the allergens are the reason why an allergic reaction occurs. An allergen triggers the occurrence of immunoglobulin E, while allergies occur due to immunoglobulin E. What are the similarities, then, between allergens and allergies and why we sometimes mix the one term with the other? Allergens and allergies are two terms related to the immune system. Both allergens and allergies involve immunoglobulin E (IgE) and both cause the disruption of the normal functioning of the body.
Only sensitive allergens trigger allergic reactions. Allergens are mainly of two types: natural origin and synthetic origin. Allergies are of two types: mild allergies and severe allergies (anaphylaxis).
Allergy safe cosmesis and skincare
We point out first the difference between hypoallergenic and allergy-safe, to clarify then the definition of allergy-safe.
Hypoallergenic products are formulated in order to reduce the risk of the occurrence of an allergic reaction on the skin. Allergy-safe products totally avoid the allergens that are defined as such, being recognized as the major responsible for allergic reactions. The SCCNFP (Scientific Committee for Cosmetic Products and Non-Food Products intended for Consumers) in 1999 identified 26 substances, used in fragrances, indicating that information on these substances should be provided to consumers regarding their presence in cosmetic products. In this regard, Directive 2003/15/EC, which amended Directive 76/768/EEC, introduced the obligation to indicate the 26 allergens on the label. The indication of their presence on the label is mandatory if their concentration exceeds 0.001% in leave-on products (products that don’t rinse off) orexceeds 0.01% in rinse-off products (products that are rinsed off). This list of 26 substances has proved to be very important in the clinical management of patients allergic to one or more of these substances, but it is equally important when purchasing the product, since these substances are in fact identifiable as indicated on the label, patients with contact allergy to one or more of these substances can avoid cosmetic products that contain them.
Allergy-safe products do not contain any of these substances and, furthermore, in YA.BE we take care of avoiding many others potentially armful substance, as well as any non-natural harmful ingredient, such as paraben, silicone and in general all petroleum derivatives.
This is the reason why all YA.BE face creams and serums are perfect also for the eye contour.
